Now a days as the iPhone X, iPhone 8, iPhone 8 Plus are coming with wireless charging capabilities. There is no doubt in saying that wireless charging is a popular feature of modern flagship smartphones. Apple users are clamoring the feature and hence that was finally added to the latest generation of iPhones. With the development of new feature, wireless charging is also associated with the different negative aspects.
What is Wireless Charging And How Does it Work in iPhones?
In wireless charging, power gets transferred from power outlet to the device without using any connecting cable. It involves a power transmitting pad, receiver and sometimes a case is attached to the mobile device or even built into the phone itself.
As wireless charging is based on inductive charging where power is created by passing electrical current through two coils so that electromagnetic field can form. When the receiving magnetic plate come into contact with the transmitter, electrical current generated into the device by the electromagnetic field.
This electrical current is converted into direct current and hence charge the iPhone’s battery. Because of wireless charging, iPhones burn through battery charge cycles faster than as you expected. If we talked about wired charging, it switches the device to AC power, that gives the battery a rest and on the other hand, wireless charging taxes the battery for power and hence device degrades quickly.
Wireless Charging is Killing iPhone Batteries
Apple has designed iPhone batteries to retain 80% capacity through 500 charge cycles. This can be easily understood through this example i.e., If you have used 75% of battery on Monday and then recharge it to 100% and on the next day you only use 25% then you have completed a whole cycle.
Although you can also use macOS software i.e., “Coconutbattery” to determine if your iPhone is burning through charging cycles faster than expected. If you maintain your current usage/charging habits then you can pass 500 charging cycles in less than 18 months of use.
Does Wireless Charging Degrade Battery?
Wireless charging does not give the battery a break because of the data streams to and from a device. On the other hand, when you plugged in battery it gets a break and wireless charging continuously uses iPhone and hence stresses iPhone. In this way, wireless charging is more ubiquitous and hence closes the gap in terms of speed and voltage on wired charging. Now, iPhone users are not safe so please think twice before headed towards wireless charging.
No matter what kind of product you are using, wireless charging experience constant battery stress and hence reduce the life-span of the device. So, charge your iPhone wirelessly only if there is an emergency because these devices emanate heat which is quite dangerous for your iPhone. But because of wireless charging, there is no need to stop using this latest and greatest mobile tech innovation. We recommend you to give the battery a rest in the evening and plug it in.
